Kent Bain says he was “Just another car crazy kid” — like so many of us. He hoped to become an automotive designer but quickly learned that was going to be a very tough field to break into. He ultimately found his way into industrial design and became a consultant in that field.
In those days, back around 1978, he had the good fortune to have access to a four car garage which gave him the space to start doing some restoration work, one car at a time, on cars ranging from MGs and Sprites to Packard! Among his friends at the time was Charlie Webb who was doing work on Bugattis. The fact that there were several good machine shops in the area proved very helpful. Kent and Charlie soon combined their talents and went into business as Automotive Restorations. As their business, and Vintage Racing, grew it became apparent that the Vintage Racing business alone could be viable and in 1985 Vintage Racing Services was spun off as a separate but affiliated entity.
The VSCCA had been prominent in the area for a number of years and Vintage Racing Services concentrated on preparing cars to the VSCCA regulations. Kent says that “as Vintage Racing and the VSCCA grew, Vintage Racing Services grew as well.” They now have about 50,000 sq. ft. in five locations, each of which specializes in one of the many phases of building, repairing, and looking after Vintage racers. There are now about forty employees that can handle any phase of preparation on any car whether for track or concourse competition. They take pride in carefully assessing the needs of their clients and providing services up to an agreed upon point. There will be no rude surprises.Kent’s driving experience began with some autocrossing with a Chevy powered Healy and a borrowed Lotus 6 with an 1172cc engine! He had enough fun with the lotus that he ended up buying one of his own which he ran from 1983 until 1992.

“The social qualities and fellowship in vintage racing celebrates true enthusiasm for the vehicles, for the people and for the activity itself.”
Kent Bain

In 2005, Vintage Racing Services attended four rallies in three countries, twenty race weekends as well as a number of practice days. We do realize that we are in the entertainment business after all.”Call Kent Bain at Vintage Racing Services at 203-377-6745. (CT)
