1964 Jaguar E-Type Fixed Head Coupe
1964 Jaguar E-Type Fixed Head Coupe – $25,000
Awaiting completion of restoration, this E-Type Jaguar promises to become once again an exemplar of an all-time sensation considered by some to be the world’s most beautiful automobile.
History
The E-Type Jaguar was the sensation of the 1961 Geneva Automotive Show and even today remains just as much of a sensation. It was a production sports car that could break the magic 150mph barrier and possessed the design that was selected by the New York Coty Museum of Modern Art as the “world’s most beautiful automobile.”
With four-wheel independent suspension and disc brakes on all four-wheels, it represented a milestone in the development of the modern sports car, and was the evolution of Jaguar’s LeMans-winning D-Type. The new E-Type was ultimately an even greater technical breakthrough than the XK. Dispensing entirely with the pre-war concept of a separate body bolted to a rolling chassis, the XKE broke new ground with a monocoque body tub attached to a complex tubular framework holding the engine and bonnet. Most importantly, the new car’s performance was as breathtaking as its looks.
The example pictured here patiently awaits someone to finish its restoration. A new tub has been mated to the original chassis along with a rebuilt motor. All the bits are present, along with some extras. This will make for a very good do-it-yourselfer project.
