1974 BMW 2002 Turbo

1974 BMW 2002 Turbo – $50,000

The ultimate development of the original Ultimate Driving Machine, restored to perfection in classic Charmonix White. “Extraordinarily Collectible.”-Hemmings Sports & Exotic Car

History

Bob Lutz introduced the BMW 2002 Turbo at the Frankfurt Auto Show in late 1973. The 2002 Turbo was produced for only 10 months, but left its legacy as the greatest of all 2002s and the precursor to BMW’s competition success in both Europe and the U.S. The 1.5-liter turbocharged BMW engine that powered Nelson Piquet to the 1983 F1 World Championship was a direct development.

The 2002 Turbo combined the 1,990cc in-line four with a KKK turbocharger and the Kugelfischer fuel injection unit of the 2002tii to produce 170hp. Turbo lag meant that boost came on unexpectedly. But the combination is the most powerful and most collectible of all 2002s.

Special Provenance

This outstanding, numbers matching example of the 2002 Turbo has received continuous and meticulous maintenance and is offered in a very high specification. Mechanically and cosmetically, this automobile appears as new. This is particularly valued in this 2002 Turbo, most examples of which were raced to oblivion.
